It comes with great consideration that we are shutting down our Matrix services at the end of April. We highly encourage if you care about any of your data that you take steps to either backup or migrate your data to another service, we have added resources in the bottom of this post.

Why are we doing this?

We were made aware through reports of certain types of content being synchronized against our server, things which are considered illegal and have forwarded the reports to upstream servers… However, this did not result in reports stopping so we have in the interest of keeping in compliance with both US Law and the burden of trying to police a platform that lacks much in terms of moderation tools due to the privacy respecting nature, to shutdown services.

While we do not blame the platform, and we do agree that privacy is something we want to ensure for everyone and keeping your data yours. There has come a point where moderation for illegal and immoral content is becoming too hard for us to moderate, so we have chosen to discontinue offering this service.

What will happen to my data?

• Any rooms moderated and managed by CyberFurz LLC will be locked on April 30, 2024 (as rooms are synchronized with other servers this will can only lock to prevent further use)
• Any rooms that are synchronized by other servers will continue to exist as is by design of the protocol
• Any conversations in rooms or private chats participated with users on other servers will continue to exist on the remote servers
• Any data on the servers will be wiped and OS re-installed
• Backups of the system will be wiped out
• Domain will be redirected and kept under ownership for minimum of 3 years

April 14, 2024 – Registrations official closed!

April 30, 2024 – Official Rooms will be locked permanently, final backup of data taken!

May 15, 2024 – Servers will be shut down and wiped along with backups!
